Sic Bo is played with three six sided dice
Sic Bo is played with three six sided dice. The game is played on a table where dealer rolls three dice. The object of the game is to predict which number will appear on the face of the dice after they have been shaken. Game play involves betting that a certain condition (e.g. that all three dice will roll the same) will be satisfied by a roll of the dice
There are six types of bets
A Sic Bo table will have six different types of bets. Each type of bet will have several different betting options and odds.
- A Big bet is won if the three dice have a total between 11 and 17. A Small bet is claimed only if the three dice adds up from 4 to 10. The Big and Small bets are the most likely to win.
- Just like a roulette wheel you can bet if the total of the three dice is going to be odd or even. An Odd bet is won if the total of the dice is odd. An Even bet will win if the total of the three dice are even. A Triple bet relies on all three dice landing on the same number. If a Triple is rolled, the Odd, Even, Big and Small bets automatically lose.
- Players can bet on two numbers, called Doubles, or a single number, Singles. If that number or numbers is rolled the player wins. The bets for Doubles and Singles most often pay 8 to 1 and 5 to 1 respectively.
Where to place the bets
Players place their bets on certain areas of the table. The dealer then picks up a small chest containing the dice which he/she closes and shakes. Finally the dealer opens the chest to reveal the combination. The winning players collect their winnings. Bets that are not winners are taken off the table and a new round begins.
Some of the markings seen on the Sic Bo table are of Chinese character but it does not affect the game.
Most of the betting areas actually show the faces of the dice that are being bet on. Lights under the translucent surface of the Sic Bo betting layout show what wagers have won. Players can store their chips in grooves that appear in the railing around the table or else stack them on the unmarked felt apron that surrounds the betting field.
Compared to many casino table games, Sic Bo may seem slow. It is played at a leisurely pace, giving all players plenty of time to make their decisions and place their bets. Watching a few spins before playing will give beginners a good idea of how wagering is done.
